ControlAI is a UK nonprofit advocating a ban on AGI development. They have offices in London and DC and engage in extensive lobbying. Let’s meet them: 🧵
Andrea Miotti, founder and CEO.
Italian. Educated in the UK and China.
Interned at the UN and former EU lobbyist. Background entirely in politics. Image
Connor Leahy, US executive director.
"German-American," formerly lived in London. To his credit, he has said EAs are "weirdo cultists that lie constantly and see no moral problem with this because they're 'utilitarian." I agree. Image

WAIT WAIT WAIT — SO APPARENTLY IF YOU CAN FALL ASLEEP AFTER COFFEE AND ALWAYS ASSUMED YOUR BODY JUST PROCESSES CAFFEINE DIFFERENTLY — THAT'S ACTUALLY A DOCUMENTED ADHD THING??

Yes. And it's one of the most reliable signs.
1. Caffeine raises dopamine and norepinephrine. In neurotypical brains that overshoot above baseline produces the wired feeling everyone expects. In a chronically under-stimulated ADHD brain the same push simply gets you to baseline. It doesn't overshoot. It arrives. The calm you feel isn't immunity to caffeine. It's your nervous system finally landing somewhere that feels like normal for the first time all day.
2. The ADHD nervous system runs in a state of chronic under-regulation — restless, scanning, unable to settle — not because it has too much energy but because it can't direct any of it. Caffeine temporarily raises the dopamine floor enough that the scanning quiets. The restlessness reduces. The system can finally land. And landing, for a brain that's been running loud and directionless all day, is very close to sleep.

Browder: Why does Donald Trump Jr. need $170,000 from Russians?

He has made huge money from deals, Emirati money, World Liberty Financial, and a drone company with a Pentagon loan.

Why take wedding cash from a Putin-linked Russian oligarch?

1/
Browder: Russians do not give gifts without wanting something back. This was a small private wedding, 55 guests, and several Russians were there.

Kremlev even changed his name from one tied to Russian organized crime and past convictions. This whole thing stinks.

2/
Browder: This looks worse as Trump criticizes Ukraine for hitting Russian refineries, not Putin for killing Ukrainian civilians.

MAGA called every Russia story a hoax. Now a Kremlin-linked ex-convict is paying Donald Trump Jr. It is unbelievable and outrageous.

7 ways to know when the Holy Spirit is leading you
1. Pay attention to the inward witness (Romans 8:14)
The Holy Spirit can guide you through a strong inward knowing or conviction. Learn to pay attention when something within you is saying, “This is not right,” or giving you peace to proceed.
2. Notice when a scripture comes alive to you (John 16:13)
Sometimes, while praying or studying the Word, a particular scripture suddenly speaks directly into your situation. Slow down and pay attention. The Holy Spirit uses the Word to bring understanding and direction.

1/ Russia's Major General Anton Grunis, who was killed on 13 September in the Donetsk house he was using as a headquarters, is believed by Russian insiders to have been targeted by the Ukrainians as the result of a leak from his own side. ⬇️
2/ Anastasia Kashevarova says that Grunis appears to have been blown up as the result of a leak of information on his whereabouts from within Russia's military. If she is right – and it is quite plausible – then it highlights Ukraine's ability to repeatedly assassinate enemies.
3/ "Anton Grunis, commander of the 4th brigade, known as "Marshal of Victory," was killed. Two FP-1 strike groups hit his home. They targeted him deliberately. They knew where and when to strike.

This text is a tribute to "Grozny," the "Marshal of Victory," as Putin called him. Image

Tonight on God Bless America 51:

"I am going to Kirk you" "You die"

My alma mater University of Utah threatened expulsion of conservative students for exposing a student who was celebrating the anniversary of Charlie Kirk's assassination.

UofU has a history of anti-conservative, anti-white bias. Tonight I will be reviewing said history, including a prior incident involving a student threatening to 'Kirk' a conservative student.

8pm CST 🧵
"Countering whiteness" is the goal of University of Utah faculty

Dr Kathy Obear: "I have not done my work as a white person."
"In this pandemic in this time of racial reckoning, since George Floyd's murder.
A quick example of countering whiteness."

'I have not done my work as a white person sounds like self-flagellation
University of Utah was pushing DEI in defiance of state law specifically outlawing DEI
"The programs that we're doing [DEI], they have to be marketed a different way."
"You said that you brought in professors because they have more academic freedom so they can continue doing the same work that's now banned by the state legislature"

This op-ed can’t be real:

“Students on University of California campuses may struggle with basic math, but they are graduating at record rates.”

“What has made the University of California exceptional is its commitment to increase access without sacrificing excellence.” Image
It’s getting crushed by NYT readers in the comments: Image

And that is how change is made. Ideological purity must be shelved and the interests of all must gain value in being heard and addressed.

Meaning, there is no path to electoral or policy success for those only representing a small portion of the population.
The NDP only represent the working class. Not the middle class or wealthy Canadians. Their only interest is in preserving the privileges their demands have managed to carve out for minimum wage earners and lower income benefits.
While those needs must be made public and be addressed, they are NOT the only needs in Canadian citizenry. Business leaders and professionals need representation, as do moms and dads. Seniors and the disabled. Every plurality wants needs addressed.

Dopamine snacks for ADHD.

Tiny hits of dopamine that aren't food. And no, I'm not telling you to meditate.
Think: micro-dose the fun.

Here are 5 ideas: 1/6
1. Rearrange one small thing in your space. New visual environment = novelty signal = dopamine. Your brain responds to tiny changes faster than big ones.
Move a plant. Flip a cushion. Put your coffee on the other side of the desk. Ridiculous? Yes. Effective? Your brain will not care that it was ridiculous. 2/6
2. Send a voice note instead of a text. The spontaneity, the performance, the instant delivery — it hits differently. Try it once and you'll understand.
The slight performance pressure, the real-time thinking out loud, the warmth of your actual voice — it's a richer experience and your brain rewards richer. 3/6

In 1920s Vienna, British spy Colonel Thomas Kendrick lived a glittering double life.

He charmed Austrian aristocracy at lavish balls and dinners while secretly running one of SIS's most effective espionage networks:
(🧵) Image
As the 1920s drew to a close, Kendrick and his wife continued to lead very active social lives, with regular attendance at the theatre, concerts and the State Opera House. Their apartment continued to be a hub of cultural luncheons and dinners. A natural charmer, Kendrick’s charisma was infectious and magnetic, but there was another factor.

Though he was not a practising Roman Catholic, his background enabled him to move in the highest circles of Austria and be accepted there, because this was a conservative, Roman Catholic society.

A Protestant would have found it harder to penetrate these high-level contacts, and Kendrick was seen as the perfect ‘insider’ for SIS’s work there.

(continued)
He was described by one source as an ‘organiser and life and soul of gatherings of the “colony” [British and American expatriates in Vienna]’.

For many years, he was president of Vienna’s famous Beef Steak Club and was reputed ‘to have known more of the once famous night life of Vienna than is the good fortune of most foreigners’. With complete discretion, he moved at ease in Viennese aristocratic and diplomatic circles, as well as among the Americans who were living in the capital.

His wife, Norah, was accepted as a member of the American Women’s Club there, even though she was not American. It was a club that frequently held cultural events and musical and intellectual lunches.

1/ Two years ago, two Russian drone operators with the call signs 'Goodwin' and 'Ernest' were murdered by their commander, Colonel Ivan 'Evil' Puzik. Many Russian warbloggers are commemorating this as the point when they lost confidence in the Russian military leadership. ⬇️ Image
2/ Russian warbloggers are, publicly at least, still very committed to the idea that the invasion of Ukraine is a noble national cause. However, the pervasive criminality of senior military officers has clearly had a tangible effect on morale.
3/ Virtually nothing in the last few years appears to have shaken their morale more than the deaths of 'Goodwin' – real name Dmitry Lysakovsky – and his comrade Sergei 'Ernest' Gritsai. Both men were sent to their deaths after recording a video accusing Puzik of drug dealing. Image

1. The headlines this month all say the same thing. Georgia and Michigan audited their voter rolls, the rolls are clean, noncitizen voting is a myth, case closed. I actually read what the auditors found. It's not the story you were told. 💎🧵
2. Georgia first. Auditors went through about 7.9 million registrations and found roughly 2,570 potential noncitizens who had been placed on active or inactive voter status at some point. 407 of those registrations had a voting history.
3. And so how did they get on the rolls? The DMV. Workers at Georgia's Department of Driver Services coded noncitizens as U.S. citizens. In some cases a work permit was entered into the system as a U.S. birth certificate. I mean, read that twice.
