Nginx may fail to start on some servers
Resolved - We applied a fix to all servers provisioned since 10 August, so Nginx will no longer fail to start after an upgrade. Newly provisioned servers were fixed on 3 September.

Identified - We have identified the cause. The Brotli module that Forge installs during provisioning is tied to the exact Nginx version on the server, so once Nginx is upgraded, it no longer loads, and Nginx will not start. This can happen without any action on your part, since automatic updates can upgrade Nginx.

A fix has been deployed, so newly provisioned servers are no longer affected. Servers provisioned since 10 August may still be impacted, and we are preparing an automated fix for them. If your sites are down right now, contact support to get them back up.

Investigating - We are investigating nginx failing to start on some servers across multiple providers. Affected sites will not load and return error 521 behind Cloudflare. This can happen on a newly provisioned server or on an existing one after nginx is upgraded. The cause is the Brotli module going out of sync with the server's Nginx version.

Some Let's Encrypt certificates failing to issue or renew
Resolved - GitHub has lifted the restriction on unauthenticated downloads that was preventing servers from fetching the Let's Encrypt client. If a certificate failed during the incident, you can reissue it from the site's Domains tab.

Investigating - Some servers are currently unable to issue or renew Let's Encrypt certificates. The job fails while fetching its client from GitHub, before any domain validation runs, so this is not caused by your DNS, firewall or site configuration.
If a certificate failed, you can retry it from the site's Domains tab. If you have a certificate close to expiring, please retry it manually.
