Start.dev is built around doing the work. You write code in a real lesson workspace, run it, get feedback, and finish practical projects instead of only watching someone else code.
No. Start.dev is a separate platform built for interactive learning. Brad Traversy is Start.dev's Lead Instructor, which helps us create best-in-class courses, but Start.dev is independently operated and distinct from Traversy Media.
We appreciate students joining us from Traversy Media. As a thank you for your support, we are happy to offer a discount.
No. Beginner courses introduce each concept step by step, while more advanced courses let experienced developers focus on a specific language, framework, or tool.
There is no local setup for coding lessons. The lesson workspace, coding tools, tests, and assistant are available in your browser. Use a laptop or desktop for coding workspaces; text, video, and quiz lessons remain available on smaller screens.
Yes. We want to make knowledge accessible to everyone, so anyone can read lessons, watch videos, and explore every course for free. Free users can usually try the platform's interactive capabilities in the first few chapters of each course, so you can try it out before deciding whether to upgrade.
After the free interactive portion, you can keep reading and watching, but you cannot run code in Start.dev. You can download the lesson files and continue practicing on your own machine. Cloud development environments have ongoing infrastructure costs, so Premium helps us keep course content open while continuing to build and improve Start.dev.
We are building a dedicated system that will automatically provide a generous student discount to students with a .edu email address.

Yes. When you complete a course's platform requirements, you receive a verifiable completion certificate. It records your achievement on Start.dev, but it is not an accredited academic or professional credential.
