Collect tax with Checkout

Learn how to automatically calculate taxes using Stripe Checkout.

Stripe Tax automatically calculates taxes on purchases and subscriptions during a Checkout Session. If you haven’t integrated with Stripe Checkout, start with the Accept a Payment guide first.

Depending on what you sell, you might be able to transfer tax liability to Stripe entirely.

Transfer tax liability to Stripe

If you sell digital products, Managed Payments lets you transfer tax liability to Stripe, meaning we’re directly responsible for handling sales tax, VAT, or GST globally. Managed Payments also handles fraud prevention, dispute management, and customer support on all transactions.

Before you start, confirm that your Stripe Tax settings are complete.
