In a game of inches, the difference between a thrilling victory and a crushing loss can be a single missed tackle. To dominate the field in Madden NFL 27 Arcade Edition, try these tips.
Tweak your line-up
It’s tempting to slot in your highest-rated players at every position, but being flexible with your line-up can have a major impact. Just traded for a star RB? Consider swapping out your pass-catching TE for a mauling run-blocking specialist. Facing a stout defence? Your starting QB could have a higher overall rating, but your speedier backup might help you break through.
Call your own plays
Sticking with computer-suggested plays works fine on lower difficulty settings, but if you want to play on All-Madden, you’ll have to master your own playbook. Sort by play type (run, short pass, long pass, play action, etc.) or by formation to find the right play for the situation. Run Nickel or Dime formations if you’re getting exposed by a long passer, or stack the box in Bear formation to stuff a dominant run game.
Take advantage of match-ups
As a legendary coach once said, “Trust players, not plays.” Sometimes it’s best to just get the ball in the hands of a star and let ’em cook. Fire a spiral to your all-pro tight end for a crucial first down. Take control of that burly pass rusher to pressure the opposing QB into a game-changing interception. Whatever gets the job done!
When in doubt, audible
Changing your play at the last minute is a great way to get the jump on an overconfident defense. If you think the cornerbacks are pressing your WR screen, for instance, call a run audible to avoid a pick six – and maybe pick up some yardage.
Have a balanced offence
Run the ball five times in a row and your opponent will quickly catch on. Stay unpredictable! Running the ball can set up a play-action pass (a pass play that starts with a run fake), while periodic passing spreads out the defence, making them susceptible to interior runs. Just because a play works once doesn’t mean it’ll work again!
